Set 250 years in the future, Barrier City is a sci-fi mmorpg focusing on a colorful design, a playful game style, and a lack of the usual sci-fi tropes of drugs, crime, and petty violence. The backstory follows a group of likeminded citizens who left their crumbling cities around the year 2100, and came together to build a city free from the chaos of a world gone mad. The game is being made in response to the divided, crumbling state that our Western world is going through, in addition to the many problems that nations in other regions face. What if instead of being driven by greed and profit at all costs, we focused on creativity, compassion and advancement? Togetherness, not division.
Barrier City is designed first and foremost as a social game, it's meant to be a digital hangout spot. That is followed by the addition of quests and missions, as well as exploration.
We will likely use an affordable subscription model, with an in-game item shop that you'll pay for with currency you earn from playing. There might be an option to buy "some" in-game items if you simply must, as we recognize that some players simply don't have as much time to dedicate to a game.
However Barrier City is designed so that you earn your accomplishments through gameplay, so if you score that beautiful suit of armor, others will know you worked for it.
